Amplifiers
As a hobby I build guitar amplifiers from time to time. I’ve also repaired a few vintage amps. I do it for the fun of it.
Amplifier #4: Two Channel Head is a two channel, 25 W amplifier using three 12AX7 and two 6L6 tubes. Its design is fairly mainstream.
Amplifier #3: Experimental Power Amp was a power amp with no tone controls supporting a variety of circuit topologies. It had two 12AX7 and two 6L6 tubes. I was unhappy with it and recycled it into amplifier #4.
Amplifier #2: AX84 November was a two channel Plexi clone with three 12AX7 and two EL84 tubes. It was noisy and suffered from a rectifier failure. I recycled it into amplifier #3.
Amplifier #1: AX84 P1 is a simple single-ended amplifier with a single 12AX7 and EL84, cathode bias, and no negative feedback. |
Future Projects
- Cabinet for amp #4.
- Small combo amp using parts from amplifier #1. This amp would have power scaling, shared active Baxandall EQ, and switchable overdrive. It will have a 10 inch Weber speaker and a cherry cabinet.
- Modular power amp / preamp system.
- Publish my schematics, equations, etc.
- Find people for collaborations.
- Figure out how to make features foot-switchable.
